Najid’s focus is innovation within the agricultural industry to solve contemporary issues by digitising current data acquisition methods and increasing the quality and quantity of information gathered for research purposes. His main goal is to develop proximal senor platforms which have multidisciplinary applications over a wide range of crop configurations and to provide the industry with innovative data acquisition and analysis techniques.
Demand for canopy statistics in research is increasing, in both broadacre and intensive industries. In particular the LWIR spectrum associated with thermal radiation is a favourable characteristic for crop analysis. Observing this can assist in identifying heat stress, deterministic irrigation management and decision making.
Machine vision techniques are employed in extracting relevant descriptive properties from overlayed images. Using colour segmentation and scan matching, canopy regions can be identified and analysed giving statistical and spatial temperature data.
Najid Pereira-Ishak has graduated from Macquarie University as a Mechatronic Engineer and has been employed as a Research Technician in CSIRO under the Agriculture and Food business unit. COLLABORATIONS
